Building Was Easy, Getting Leads Was Not.

I have to be honest, there was a point where getting clients for PASTE and Cre8fast felt harder than building the actual products. And that’s something many founders quietly struggle with. We focus so much on building that we forget one uncomfortable truth: after you build, selling becomes your full-time job. You need signups, you need active users, you need people actually paying. Without that, everything else is just effort with no output.

This whole struggle reminded me of something from over a decade ago, when I first started learning tech. Back then, I had access to almost every course material you could imagine. Frontend, backend, product, design, infrastructure, everything. If you check my Threads profile, you’ll see I still share a lot of learning resources weekly. I learned a lot of things during that period, but I skipped networking and marketing.

I didn’t like Cisco CCNA, enterprise-style learning, or anything that felt like it. Marketing didn’t sound interesting to me either.

After doing several rounds of research and reflection, I told myself there has to be a way to get more leads without shouting online every day. All I needed was to understand lead generation properly, right?

This is where tools like Hunter.io and Apollo.io completely changed how I think about lead generation. Hunter.io helps you find verified work emails from company domains. It’s simple, clean, and very direct. Apollo.io goes deeper. It gives you access to company data, roles, filters, decision-makers, and outreach tools. With tools like these, lead generation stops being stressful and starts becoming structured. You’re no longer guessing who to talk to; you’re targeting intentionally.

There are other tools in this same space that are also worth exploring.

Snov.io is great for email discovery and outreach. Clearbit helps with company and user data enrichment. Lemlist and Instantly are powerful for running cold email campaigns at scale. These tools don’t replace thinking, but they make the work faster and cleaner.

To take it even further, AI agents and automation changed the game for me completely. I realized I could design a system that picks specific keywords, gathers leads based on those keywords, crafts the right email messages, and engages them automatically. Using n8n, I started building automation workflows that connect lead tools, AI, and email systems. Lead generation stopped being a daily task and became a running system.

The workflow is simple in concept: identify an industry or keyword, pull leads from a platform like Apollo, enrich and clean the data, use AI to personalize messages, send the emails, and track responses. Once this is set up, your system works even when you’re busy building. This is where founders win, not by working harder, but by building smarter systems.
